“Racism is a continuum, and admitting to one’s own racism acknowledges that the continuum is shared. No white person, however liberal, can reasonably be said to exist outside of that continuum altogether.”

A continuum is a perfect comparison. I was trying to explain this very topic to a family member recently, and I also believe some confusion lies within the terminology. Being labeled as a “racist” is ugly and dirty. But that’s exactly what racism is — ugly, dirty, and the lowest form of human behavior. As someone who has considered themselves “not a racist” in the past, I have recently woken up to the fact that I too am a racist.
